XW544 – Airfix 1/48
Built by Dean Large
Airfix 1/48 scale Buccaneer. This is an old kit and is particularly
difficult to put together neatly. I was determined to depict XW544 as
she was when I took my back seat ride in her on August 29th 2019,
which meant faithfully replicating all the stains, fading, chipping
and discolouration of the paint and markings which were present on
that day. I also modified two pilot figures to represent me waving
from the back seat and Ollie concentrating on his driving in the
front! Lots of scratch building, self made decals and poring over
reference photos later, this is the result.
XV336 – Airfix 1/72
Built by Adam Poultney
This model is the modern tooling in 1/72 scale by Airfix, built OOB from the first release of the kit. It represents XV336, a Buccaneer S.2C c.1971 aboard HMS Eagle. Overall the build went really well, the only difficulties being of my own making including an unscheduled landing (I dropped it and broke the refuelling probe in half). Everything in this kit more or less fits and is well detailed. Airfix have chosen to break it down very much like the real thing along roughly where bulkheads would have gone, as a result you can build up the model in convenient subassemblies. For painting I used a combination Tamiya, Vallejo and Citadel colours, all acrylics so there would be no issues with them reacting. The main colour isn’t quite perfect but it’s close enough for me.
XX895 – Airfix 1/72
Built by Nathan Chenery
Airfix 1:72 Buccaneer S.2B, built as XX895 with some Xtradecal decals, a fantastic kit to build, fits very well and has a nice amount of detail. I also added some rivet details to this one too.

A&AEE Buccaneer – Tamiya 1/100
Built by Nathan Chenery
Tamiya 1:100 Buccaneer S.2, built as an A&AEE aircraft with spare decals in my collection. Fun little kit to build, but with a few inaccuracies.
